Person of the Week: Katya Trischuk and her Easter eggs!

Everyone is preparing for Easter! Even if you already have decorations and already bought gifts we bet it will be still interesting for you to read about an amazing artist Katya Trischuk and her really breathtaking painted eggs!

"I live in Toronto with my husband Louie and a little dog. Easter 2014 will be very interesting, as my shop getting bigger and busier.

I discovered my artistic ability at an early age and was often in trouble at school for drawing in my books or spending my lunch money on art supplies", - says Katya.

In the mid 90's Katya turned to painting with oil on canvas and for 3 years had her own art atelier in Kiev. Her talents were recognized in the arts community and with private collectors. During this time, Katya traveled extensively throughout Europe where she visited museums and learned more about art, history and architecture.

In the summer of 2000 Katya returned to Toronto to complete her degree in Interior Design at Ryerson University. Today Katya continues her passion for painting. She considers herself a "process-oriented" artist and uses a palette knife for layering, dry-brush techniques, cloths and even her hands to create paintings that are rich in vibrant colours and lush with texture. This gives her work a distinctive quality. Katya's work can be seen at any number of Toronto art galleries and has been showcased at The Toronto International Art Fairs.

Katya's painting are very touching! But today we'll show you only her beautiful Pysanky - Ukranian painted Easter eggs!

And some nice picks of Katya's treasures! :)

Person of the Week: Sasha and her amazing WarmCeramics shop!

Hi all! Today we are going to talk about ceramics! But it won't be usual and boring bowls, vases and plates. We'll show you amazing hand carved ornaments on ceramic items and unique natural colors!

"I'm a big fan of ALL handmade ceramic things and ware. When I hold ceramic bowl or a mug in my hands I feel the spirit of nature and that special mood the artist had when created this thing, I feel the clay. And this feeling is really breathtaking. This is how I can connect to nature!" - says our artist Elena.

This week we found a very special artist on Etsy! Her name is Sasha, she lives in St. Petersburg (Russia). Sasha's Etsy shop is called WarmCeramics.

"I honestly tried to become a geologist. But I always knew that it wasn't the thing I should do. And one day I met a ceramic artist who teached me to work with clay. It happened 3,5 year ago. And since then I've been working with clay every day and I enjoy every moment of making ceramic items! - Sasha told us - I adore to carve different motives and ornaments! Almost all things I've made were processed with ancient Russian method - milk baking".

Ancient artists in Russia used milk baking as there were no glazes. After baking in milk ceramic ware become waterproof and get warm brown colors.
Milk baking is 100% eco-friendly: Sasha bakes ware on 1000'C, then she soaks it in milk for several minutes, dries it and then bakes again. During the 2nd baking milk burns down and fills all micro pores.

Sasha's ceramic mugs and bowls are very handwarm and cozy!

Person of the Week: Elena (TimeMade vintage shop)

Hi all! This is Viktoria!
Today is Sunday and it's a very important day for us! We start our new blog column
"Person of the Week".
What is it about? We are surfing Etsy a lot. Usually it takes 2-3 hours a day. Sometimes we meet really talanted artists and sellers and would like to tell you about them!
How do we pick a person for the column? There are a lot of similar products on handmade and vintage market. So we try to find smth new and interesting: unusual and beautiful photos, rare items, unique shapes of products, fresh ideas, new techniques, breathtaking stories etc.
How often will we write about artists? We plan to publish stories once a week on Sunday or we'll tell you in advance if different.

And today I'm going to present you Elena - the owner of Etsy shop with vintage items TimeMade
Elena was born in Kazakhstan but now she lives in Israel near the Mediterranean sea (lucky her!). Elena collects beautiful vintage jewelry, clothes and items for home decor.

"My mission is to bring back some memories of old good times, brighten up today and save something for tomorrow" - says Elena

This week I took part in an unusual and unexpected photo shoot: no photo studio, no professional light and me as a model! Elena tried new type of sales pitch. Fantastic experience! Very soon all items in TimeMade shop will have new photographs and all models will be picked from ordinary girls and women. The idea is to make vintage items more "sincere".
